CEPEI - Center of Evolutionary Intersubjective Psychology
Evolution and evolutionary possibilities are the assumption of personality change in psychotherapy. This idea is what C.G. Jung described as "individuation process", but we remark its collective and universal meaning: all changes in individual consciousness are changes in human counsciousness and in Being itself: evolution is the dynamic of the whole universe (Theilard De Chardin). Analyst and patient dialogue each other, moving in the human counsciousness context, sharing the discovery of unconscious meaning and symbols. In this discovery, analyst share his thoughtful capacity with the patient and so promote the recovery evolution of his personality. Evolutionary ideas in psychoanalysis deal with intersubjectivity. In 1977 Silvia Montefoschi, jungian italian analyst who founded the first italian jungian association (AIPA), describe psychoanalytical process as the evolutionary shift from the relational interdependency context to the relational intersubjectivity context. She wrote in her book "L'uno e l'altro" (the one and the other): "The first question I put myself to analyze the operations concerning the relation with my patients is: what am I doing? I don't work directly on instincts; neither on affects; nor on psychic structure as a matter. I address to a subject insofar as he address to me. First of all I work with the way the other subject has to relate to me, because he shows and makes clear his problems in this relation, and I can understand him. According to the psychoanalytical model, I see the problems of my patient as the knowledge relationship dealing with his background and as the way he copes with his affects: so I work also with the relation the patient has with himself. The instrument I use to do this is my own relating to the patient and to myself". Analysis begins as an interdependent relation (analyst and patient, both needs each other to continue the therapeutic relation) but its evolution leads to an intersubjective relation without dependency (the therapeutic relation can end but this is not the ending of human relation between the subjects). This idea is what R. Storolow describes as intersubjective system in the analytic context, but we point out the evolutionary and therapeutic shift from interdependency to intersubjectivity during the psychoanalytic process. CEPEI's activities are addressed, as well as the practice of psychoanalysis in the strict sense (seminars on case reports, single-issue groups for reflection on issues, etc.), To general practice, with the organization of training sessions on the doctor-patient relationship (the "difficult patient", seminars on the relationship with the patient with serious or chronic, mixed groups-physicians, psychologists, health professionals, patients self-reflection and discussion on the experience of illness and death).
CEPEI organize interdisciplinary discussions with other psychoanalytic guidance, and discussions on clinic cases. From CEPEI's statute: article 3 -
